Misinformation (false info spread unintentionally) is human nature. Society speculates daily, and it’s legal unless it seriously risks prejudicing a trial under the Contempt of Court Act 1981.
Reality shows that Police Scotland falsely reported the girl as 14 before correcting to 12. This spectacular error (misinformation) was parroted by mainstream media - including the BBC, The Scottish Sun, The Courier, STV News, and The National:
