The plans for digital ID cards have been opposed by the Conservatives, Reform UK, the Liberal Democrats and campaign groups, which claim they are an assault on civil liberties.
Sir Gavin Williamson, the former education secretary, said that the proposed expansion of the technology to 13-year-olds “should strike fear into all of our hearts”.
He told The Telegraph: “It all goes to show how even at this early stage this authoritarian action is already expanding beyond its original remit.
“The cost is going to be exorbitant, but the erosion of people’s individual freedom even greater.”
Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, said he would rather go to prison than get a digital ID.
He told GB News: “Before you know it, you’ll have all your medical records on there if you’re not jabbed, because the Government thinks you should be, you’ll find yourself genuinely a second-class citizen."..."
